2 day West Coast - Make your own knife from raw steel trip.

A scenic drive with live commentary over to the very green and tropical West Coast. We headed to Barrytown for an experience of a life-time, well for me anyway. We made our own knives, from scratch. Our accommodation was at the Punakaiki Cabins and Campground close to the famous Punakaiki Pancake Rocks, right on the ocean and 15 Km to Steve's Knife making workshops, a scenic drive with the Ocean on our right all the way to his house.

It was unbelievable, how an old piece of steel could be heated in an old coal fire and turn out to be the most beautiful creation that we made from scratch, an unforgettable experience. Steve's instructions were easy to follow, just superb. I have never done anything like this and neither had any of the other guests. I will do a family, small group of 5, stay in cabins on the ocean and a 5 minute drive 20 minute walk to the famous Pancake Rocks along the beach. His charges, are very reasonable under $200 for an all day experience, lunch and teas, coffees, all day tuition, and something you can take home to show your family and friends. The knife makes a beautiful gift, I bought the leather sheath to go with it. Auckland knife making charges are double his prices.
